EXTRA CHALLENGE!
Congratulations! By completing all 4 of the prequel missions, you have unlocked an additional challenge in the game. This challenge can be completed ONLY after you receive AND finish playing the “Escape the Mothman” game. After you have completely come to the end of the game, you can use the materials in the box to complete this extra mission. Continue reading ONLY if you have finished the game.
The Mothman mystery has several possible causes, as you found out in the TNT area. You found that out as you made connections between various forms of evidence on the wall covered with strings… Perhaps you should rearrange that wall again now for this extra challenge, using the same setup as in the game. If you need a reminder, the “Man in the Black Suit” is in the bottom left position, the “Hearth” is in the top left position, the “Cabin” is in the top position, the “Mothman” is in the top right position, and the “TNT Bunker” is in the bottom right position. For this challenge, we need to examine all 5 of the major theories surrounding the origin of the Mothman. You need to figure out a number for each theory following this simple rule… YOU MAY NOT GO BACK TO ANY PIECE OF EVIDENCE YOU HAVE ALREADY COUNTED FOR EACH THEORY AND YOU MUST FOLLOW THE STRING. Try out the 5 digit code to see if you are right at the bottom.
THEORY #1
THE MOTHMAN IS AN ALIEN
What is the shortest possible route between the Mothman and the lights in the sky you can make? Count the number of photos/evidence you pass including where you stop and end.
THEORY #2
THE MOTHMAN IS AN UNDISCOVERED CREATURE
This time, what is the longest possible route between the Mothman and the dog that you can make? Remember the rules laid out above and let us know the number including where you start and end.
THEORY #3
THE EXPERIMENTS CREATED THE MOTHMAN
How many unique routes (following the rules above) can you make between the TNT Bunker and the Hearth WITHOUT using a black string? Let us know the number of ways you can create!
THEORY #4
THE MOTHMAN CAME FROM CORNSTALK’S CURSE
What is the longest possible route between Cornstalk’s Curse and the radio? Let us know the number of white strings used for your number.
THEORY #5
THE MOTHMAN IS JUST A MISIDENTIFIED BIRD
What is the shortest route between the Mothman and the only piece of evidence you have that is a bird? Let us know the number of photos/ evidence passed including where you start and end.
THINK YOU HAVE IT? Enter your 5 digit number to check.
HINTS
+ Hint 1
Let's start at Theory #1... We need to connect between Mothman and the lights in the sky. The shortest route would be to go from the Mothman to either the river or the curse to the Cabin to the lights. That gives us a "4."
+ Hint 2
The second theory is to connect the longest route between the Mothman and the dog. To do this, we go from the Mothman to the curse to the river to the cabin to the hearth to the lights to the dog. That gives us a "7."
+ Hint 3
The third theory is the number of unique routes between the bunker and the hearth without using a black string. We can go from the Bunker to the Mothman to the Curse to the Cabin to the hearth.... OR from the Bunker to the Mothman to the Curse to the Cabin to the dog to the sky to the hearth... OR from the Bunker to the Mothman to the Curse to the Cabin to the sky to the hearth... OR 3 other ways with just replacing the river each time instead of the curse. This gives us a "6."
+ Hint 4
Theory 4 is to make the longest route between the curse and the radio. We need to say the number of white strings used. We can go from the Curse to the Mothman to the River to the Cabin to tge Dog to the Lights to the Hearth to the Man in Black to the Footprint to the Radio. Following this route gives us only 3 white strings... since we had to take the LONGEST route. Our number so far is "4763."
+ Hint 5
The 5th theory connects the Mothman and the hearth (since it has an owl on it). It asks for the shortest route. You can go from the Mothman to the river to the cabin to the hearth giving you a "4." Put them all together.
+ Solution
Enter "47634" into the back computer.
