Important News Regarding Escape the Crate Subscriptions!

Greetings, Fellow Escape Artists,

We’re writing to share an important update regarding Escape the Crate: Subscription Box Adventure as we enter our 10th season of creating immersive escape room experiences for you.

After nearly a decade of ongoing subscriptions, we’ll be making a change to how our games are released going forward.

What’s Changing?

Our current adventure, Game 55: Escape: Sherlock Holmes and the Beast of Baker Street, will ship to subscribers in January/February 2026. Our next adventure, Game 56: Escape: Broken Timeline, will ship in March/April 2026.

After Escape: Broken Timeline, we will be discontinuing our subscription offerings at Escape the Crate.

Important Clarifications:

Are you closing or going out of business?

Not at all! Escape the Crate is here to stay. We’re simply changing how our games are released. Unlike most subscription services, our games don’t disappear once a subscription cycle ends — they remain available as one-time purchase boxes. In fact, the majority of our players already prefer this option, as it allows them to choose the themes they love without worrying about renewals, skipped shipments, or address changes. We’re shifting our focus to supporting this model year-round.

Will you still be making new games?

Yes! We’ll continue releasing new games throughout the year. These will be offered as one-time purchase boxes or premium games, giving us more flexibility to create:

Easier or more challenging games
Family-friendly or scarier experiences
Educational and sequel games
Holiday-themed adventures
New formats — including some games that don’t require an internet connection to play

Will I still be able to play the games I’ve already purchased?

Absolutely. All games will remain playable using the original welcome letter and password included in your box.

What if I’m still owed subscription boxes after the subscription ends?

Over the past year, we’ve been phasing out longer subscription terms, so about 95% of subscribers will not be owed any boxes beyond Escape: Broken Timeline. For the small number of subscribers who are still owed boxes due to skipped or held shipments, we’ll be reaching out this spring. You’ll be able to choose replacement games from our store — including one-time boxes and premium games — to fulfill the remainder of your subscription.

I love my subscription! Why aren’t you still offering this as an option?

We love them too — subscriptions are how Escape the Crate began. But over the past decade, a lot has changed. Our escape designers and support team (and their families!) have grown, a global pandemic hit and reshaped shopping habits, and there have been economic shifts. Our customers have made it clear that they prefer choosing individual game themes over ongoing subscriptions and we are simply acknowledging that. This pivot allows us to better serve how our community wants to play today — while still delivering plenty of brand-new Escape the Crate adventures.

What do I need to do now?

Nothing! There is no need to cancel your subscription now unless you wish to do so. Those subscribers who have a renewal for a 6 or 12-month prepay in the coming months will have their subscription automatically switched to a shorter prepaid plan. Once all subscription shipments have been fulfilled in April, we will cancel your subscription permanently. As mentioned, if you have any outstanding shipments owed on your account, we will reach out to you in the following months and offer you replacement options.
